Cuyabeno is blessed with an avian population that has nearly 600 species of birds. The Cuyabeno river makes it easier to spot birds, no matter what time of year you choose to visit, you will have the opportunity to easily view hundreds of species. Hoatzins, a type of prehistoric birds, are easily seen in trees surrounding the lodge. Numerous other species of macaws, parrots, and parakeets, as well as toucans, trogons, woodpeckers, herons, storks, birds of prey, and hummingbirds, are abundant. You will be amazed by the beauty and diversity of the birds of this region of Ecuador.

Sunset Views at Cuyabeno

Sunsets in the jungle are one of nature’s greatest shows, and one of the best spots to enjoy them is from a canoe on Laguna Grande or Caiman Cocha Lake. Your guide will explain the trees, birds, and mammals (including the pink dolphin) as you watch one of the most spectacular sunsets of your life. 

Kayaking through the Amazon Rainforest

Hear the sounds of the rainforest and explore the Amazon by kayak along the Cuyabeno River, which carries waters from the mighty Ecuadorian Andes. In two-person kayaks, you’ll enjoy the closest connection to the river. All you need is a kayak, paddle, and life vest.

During these calm explorations, you may spot toucans, hoatzins, monkeys, and other wild species.

Hike to the Ceiba Giant Trees

The trees of the Ecuadorian Amazon are truly impressive. A hike through the forest near Green Forest Ecolodge brings you face to face with massive trees reaching up to 40 meters (120 feet) high. Many have grown for centuries near the Cuyabeno River.

The mighty Ceiba tree is one of the largest you will ever see. These jungle trails go through primary rainforest, where you may also encounter monkeys, birds, and other jungle wildlife.

Watching Flora & Fauna
